LEADING GENERATIONAL CHANGE
During the Philanthropy Session of the 2025 Larry H. Miller Summit, members of Utah’ s philanthropic community came together for a day of learning, collaboration and solution-building focused on some of the state’ s most pressing challenges.
KEYNOTE: MEG WHITMAN
This year’ s keynote speaker, Ambassador Meg Whitman, drew on her decades of leadership experience at organizations including eBay and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, as well as her service as the United States Ambassador to Kenya. Ambassador

Whitman spoke about the“ power of many” in driving social change and the critical role leaders play in creating cultures where individuals and communities can thrive.
Meg Whitman emphasized that leadership is ultimately defined by values and decision-making, noting,“ Ultimately the character of a company, like the character of a person, is an accumulation of many, many moments when the choices are not necessarily clear and we make the best decisions we can. I believe we must demonstrate that we care about doing the right thing. I have come to appreciate that the character of a company is one of its most vital assets.”
NEXT-GENERATION LEADERSHIP
The day also featured a panel on next-generation leadership and philanthropy, moderated by Brilliant Miller and featuring Carine Clark, First Colony Mortgage, Amy Garff, Robert H. and Katharine B. Garff Foundation, Jeremy Andrus, Traeger Grills and Andrus Family Foundation, and Jake Boyer, The Boyer Company. Attendees also heard from partners addressing critical statewide issues, including Utah Governor Spencer Cox and Steve Starks, who discussed Utah’ s housing landscape, the future of the state’ s finite water supply with Utah Water Ways, and the importance of advancing mental wellness with the Huntsman Mental Health Foundation.
PHILANTHROPY CHANGEMAKERS
Additional highlights included the announcement of the Gail Miller Utah Impact Fund, workshops exploring emerging trends in family philanthropy, and a fireside chat with Gail Miller, granddaughter Courtney Hawks and Amanda Covington, chief corporate affairs officer. Drawing on decades of philanthropic leadership, Gail shared lessons learned and advice for the next generation of changemakers. Together, these conversations reinforced a shared commitment to leading with purpose, collaboration, and courage— underscoring the belief that meaningful impact is built over time through thoughtful leadership and collective action.
