GLOBAL TALENT, LOCAL IMPACT:
INTERNATIONAL NURSES ENRICH CARE TEAMS
In the face of an ongoing nationwide nursing shortage, international recruitment is a vital solution for skilled nursing providers. Larry H. Miller Senior Health remains at the forefront of this effort. To date, 15 nurses from the Philippines have joined the LHMSH organization at facilities across the country, bringing invaluable expertise and unique compassion and dedication to senior care.
One of these outstanding nurses is Kristia Rivera, RN. Kristia joined Advanced Health Care in July 2024, moving from Batangas, Philippines, to Lakewood, Colorado.
Kristia has a background in medicalsurgical nursing, stroke and cardiac care. While nursing wasn’ t her first career choice, she quickly fell in love with the profession.“ As I studied
anatomy and physiology, I started to love nursing,” Kristia shared.“ Nursing showed me that God really made a miracle in us.”
Her transition to Colorado has been smooth thanks to the support of colleagues and leadership. Kristia says she values the appreciation she receives daily from patients and families, noting,“ It doesn’ t get old when patients show understanding and gratitude for the care we provide.”

Deb Barnes, administrator of AHC Lakewood, expressed her gratitude for Kristia’ s contributions:“ Kristia has been an amazing addition to our team. Her professionalism, warmth and dedication have made a real difference for our patients and for the community here in Lakewood. We feel lucky to have her here.”
With a collective nursing experience of over 50 years, all of these nurses bring with them a strong work ethic and heart for patient care. They are also supported by administrators who are committed to helping these nurses succeed. It’ s all part of the Larry H. Miller Senior Health goal to not just fill positions, but cultivate a community of caregivers who exemplify excellence, empathy and a commitment to the population they serve.
