July 31 – The Season of Openings continued at Downtown Daybreak in South Jordan with Moena Café opening its second location in the United States and the first restaurant to open in the new urban center. Moena Café opened on the island of Oahu in 2012 and serves brunch with Hawaiian flavors and island-inspired dishes.
Representatives from Larry H. Miller Real Estate, the City of South Jordan, the South Valley Chamber and the owners of Moena Café gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and invited the community to a Moana-themed brunch.
August 8 – In a summer of openings, Hires Big H welcomed its newest location to Downtown Daybreak.
Hires Big H has been a Salt Lake City staple since the Hale family first opened its doors in 1959. The restaurant, known for its burgers, frosty root beer and pink fry sauce, is a longtime favorite of the Miller family.
August 8 – The Utah Senate confirmed the appointment of LHM Chairman Steve Miller to the University of Utah Board of Trustees and Miller Family Foundation Executive Director Don Stirling’ s appointment to the Salt Lake Community College Board of Trustees. As part of their four-year terms, Steve and Don will help oversee the institutions’ management, act as liaisons with the community, as well as approve academic and financial policies.
August 27 – Steve Starks, CEO of the Larry H. Miller Company, participated in a story from The Athletic and gave an update on Salt Lake City’ s efforts to land a Major League Baseball team.
Steve spoke of the Miller family’ s love of sports – especially baseball and the“ tremendous excitement locally” about the potential for expansion.
September 8 – The annual Gail Miller Leadership Cup was held at Hidden Valley Country Club. Members of the Miller family, executive team and company joined in on the fun and were able to get out and play in support of scholarships for students at Salt Lake Community College.
September 10 – Redemption Bank, the first black-owned bank West of the Mississippi, officially opened in Utah. Funded in part by the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation, the event was attended by members of the Miller Family, Bernice King and other community leaders.
September 13 – The technology department at Prestige Financial proudly partnered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing beds and bedding to children in need. The team collected five bins of bedding and raised $ 800, enough to support over 50 children in the community. Each PFS team developed a retro-style video game using AI tools, culminating in a friendly competition for the best game.
September 25 – Don Stirling, executive director of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation, was honored as a Chamber Champion at the Salt Lake Chamber’ s annual meeting in recognition of his work in advancing and bolstering Utah’ s business community.
When asked about the award and what inspires him to support the chamber, Don remarked,“ This award is more about the responsibility we all feel at the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation to do our part, to give back, to hopefully make a difference and enrich lives, and when all is said and done, that the lives of our citizens are better off because of our collective work.”
