Time on Grounds { 6 / 30 / 23 }
Student disciplinary points are cumulative . As a student ’ s total disciplinary points reaches 10-point benchmarks , 1 day of Saturday Grounds Detail ( time that a student must work in service to the college ), is assigned .
Time on Grounds Detail is removed from a student ’ s total after he has worked it off ; however , the total number of Disciplinary Points accumulated by each student is maintained throughout the year . Provided that all previously accumulated time on Grounds has been completed , students begin each academic year with a clean disciplinary record .
Scheduling { 6 / 30 / 23 } Grounds Detail is typically held two to three Saturdays each month while the college is in session under the supervision of the Operations Department . Unless otherwise directed , students report to the campus Grounds Building on the scheduled Saturday at 8am for Grounds Detail . Failure to appear for Grounds Detail as scheduled will result in a violation for AWOL .
The Grounds Detail schedule is updated each Tuesday on the digital Student Bulletin Boards in the lower stairwell of Rowan Hall . If a violation is under appeal , points do not count towards Grounds Detail until the completion of the appeal . A maximum of 1 full day may be credited on a single Saturday .
Grounds Detail Postponements { 6 / 30 / 23 } Students assigned to Grounds Detail who have an outside conflict may request , in advance , a postponement from the Vice President of Student Affairs ; however , these are rare and case-by-case . A student ’ s outside employment requirement is NOT a valid consideration .
The exception is for in-season student athletes when their assigned Grounds Detail conflicts with a scheduled in-season game . Up to two days of Grounds Detail will be automatically postponed until the next Saturday when no conflict exists . Students with 3 or more days of Grounds Detail must work as assigned regardless of a conflict with an in-season game or event .
All time on Grounds MUST be worked off by the student , even if it extends into the summer . Students should be mindful of how much time on Grounds they have at all times .
Absences from Grounds Detail { 7 / 7 / 16 } Students are expected to report to their scheduled Grounds Detail on time . If a student is unable to report due to an emergency or unforeseen issue , the student should immediately contact the Grounds Detail Supervisor prior to the start of Grounds . In these instances , students should NOT call the Attendance Line . Failing to notify the supervisor in this manner is considered neglect of duty .
Students who are ill and unable to complete Grounds Detail must visit a doctor ’ s office and present a dated medical note to the Vice President of Student Affairs for consideration upon return to campus the following week . Engine trouble , weather conditions , flat tires , and traffic jams are not acceptable reasons for failing to serve Grounds Detail as scheduled .
Time on Grounds at the End of the Year { 6 / 30 / 23 } Time on Grounds not served by the conclusion of the academic year must be served during the summer period as scheduled by the Vice President of Student Affairs . Seniors with remaining time on Grounds at the end of the spring semester must work them off during Cleanup Week .
Unless exempted by the Vice President of Student Affairs , all Time on Grounds must be worked off prior to the start of the subsequent academic year , defined as the beginning of athletic sport camps in August . If students return to campus with remaining Time on Grounds from the previous year , they will be restricted to the campus on weekends for the month of September .
