Course Name : Sculpture I Type of Course : Elective Course Available to : 9th - 12th grade
Prerequisites : VA Comprehensive I ( 80 %+)
Description : This course introduces the design and production of relief sculpture and sculpture-in-theround . Emphasizes the historical origins and functions of sculpture in Western and non-Western cultures . Includes additive , subtractive , and modeling methods . Explores traditional and nontraditional materials for sculpted works and the work of both historical and contemporary sculptural artists .
Course Name : Sculpture II Type of Course : Elective Course Available to : 10th - 12th grade
Prerequisites : Sculpture I ( 80 %+)
Description : This course enhances level-one skills and explores the design and production of relief sculpture and sculpture-in-the-round . Emphasizes the historical origins and functions of sculpture in Western and non- Western cultures . Includes additive , subtractive , and modeling , methods . Explores traditional and nontraditional materials for sculpted works and the work of a variety sculptural artists .
Course Name : AP 2-D Art and Design Type of Course : Elective Course Available to : 11th and 12th grade
Prerequisites : Teacher recommendation AND Fall art course must be taken
Description : This is an introductory college-level two-dimensional design course . Students refine and apply 2- D skills to ideas they develop throughout the course . Students will develop skills in a two-dimensional medium such as graphic design , photography , collage , printmaking , and others as they learn the principles of 2-D design and will create a portfolio of work to demonstrate inquiry through art and design and development of materials , processes , and ideas over the course of a year . The student ’ s portfolio will serve as the AP “ exam ” for this course . Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course .
Course Name : AP 3-D Art and Design Type of Course : Elective Course Available to : 11th and 12th grade
Prerequisites : Teacher recommendation AND Fall art course must be taken
Description : This is an introductory college-level three-dimensional design course . Students refine and apply 3-D skills to ideas they develop throughout the course . Students will develop skills in a three-dimensional medium such as sculpture , architectural models , metal work , ceramics , glass work , and others as they learn the principles of 3-D design and will create a portfolio of work to demonstrate inquiry through art and design and development of materials , processes , and ideas over the course of a year . The student ’ s portfolio will serve as the AP “ exam ” for this course . Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course .
