Course Name: Economics / Personal Financial Literacy Type of Course: Core Course
Available to: 12th grade
Prerequisites: US History( 70 %- 89 %) OR H. US History( 70 %- 73 %)
Description: This course is designed to explain fundamentals of economic decision-making, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and international economics as well as personal finance skills students can apply to their own futures – including managing and balancing budgets; understanding and building credit; protecting against identity theft and consumer protections; and understanding tax forms, student loan applications, and pay stubs. Focus areas include opportunity costs and scarcity, supply / demand analysis, competitive markets, macroeconomics measurement, business cycles, inflation, unemployment, monetary / fiscal policies, & international trade. This course will be completed in 9 weeks( 1 / 2 a semester) and is paired with American Government for the other 9 weeks of the semester. Students will earn 0.5 credits for this course.

Description: This course provides students with a background in the philosophy, functions, and structure of the United States government. Students examine the philosophical foundations of the United States government and how that philosophy developed. Students also examine the structure and function of the United States government and its relationship to states and citizens. Focus areas include development of our political system, federalism, civil liberties, political parties, political theory, comparative government, the functions of our executive, legislative, and judicial branches, and citizenship rights and responsibilities. This course will be completed in 9 weeks( 1 / 2 a semester) and is paired with Economics / Personal Financial Literacy for the other 9 weeks of the semester. Students will earn 0.5 credits for this course.
Course Name: Honors Economics / Personal Financial Literacy Type of Course: Core Course
Available to: 12th grade
Prerequisites: US History( 90 %+), H. US History( 74 %- 89 %), OR AP US History( 70 %- 79 %)
Description: This is an accelerated college prep course that covers all the standards included in the onlevel Economics / Personal Finance Literacy but explores the concepts at a deeper level with critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and extensive reading and writing used extensively for this level. This course will be completed in 9 weeks( 1 / 2 a semester) and is paired with Honors American Government for the other 9 weeks of the semester. Students will earn 0.5 credits for this course. Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
