The English / Language Arts department ' s mission is to develop Wheeler students ' critical thinking, writing, and imagination skills through the study of literature, language, and writing.
Students will be exposed to learning through: Literature: Students will read and analyze a range of literary works, including poetry, prose, and verse, to understand how they contribute to culture. Creative writing: Students will read fiction, poetry, journalism, and creative nonfiction to strengthen imaginative thinking. Interdisciplinary work: Students may take classes that combine English with other disciplines, such as Social Studies and Theatre. Persuasive / argumentative writing: Students will learn the art of using logic, reason, and citing sources to create and support thesis statements.
