Course Name : Literature and Composition II Type of Course : Core Course Available to : 10th grade Prerequisites : Literature and Composition I ( 70 % - 89 %)
Description : This course focuses on a study of literary genres ; the student develops understanding that theme is what relates literature to life and that themes are recurring in the literary world . While the focus is argumentative writing , the student will also demonstrate competency in a variety of writing genres : argument , informative / explanatory , and narrative . The student will engage in research , timed writings , and the writing process . Students will be prepared to an End-of-Course Exam .

Available to : 10th grade
Prerequisites : Literature and Composition I ( 90 %+) OR H . Literature and Composition I ( 80 %+)
Description : This is an accelerated college prep class that integrates reading , writing , vocabulary , grammar usage , speaking , and listening . It includes exploring all literature genres from a variety of world places and perspectives with an emphasis placed on oral and written response to literature which includes high-level research . This course is designed to prepare students for Advanced Placement Language Arts courses . Students will be prepared to an End-of-Course Exam . Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course .

Prerequisites : H . STEAM Literature and Composition I
Description : This is an accelerated college prep class that integrates reading , writing , vocabulary , grammar / usage , speaking , and listening with topics from Science , Technology , Engineering , Fine Arts , and Mathematics . It includes exploring all literature genres from a variety of world places and perspectives with an emphasis on oral and written response to literature which includes high-level research as well as STEAM-based projects . This course is designed to prepare students for Advanced Placement English / Language Arts courses . Students will be prepared to an End-of-Course Exam . Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course .
