Course Name : Writer ’ s Workshop Type of Course : Elective Course Available to : ESOL 9th grade
Prerequisites : None
Description : This course is only available to ESOL students who have been classified as beginning or developing learners based on their ELA standardized test performance in prior grades and / or their most recent reading inventory assessment . The course provides creative writing opportunities that allow students to develop fundamental skills designed to grow students towards proficiency in ELA domains . This course will be taken in the Fall and Literature and Composition I will be taken in the Spring and will replace an elective spot .

Description : This is a college prep class which integrates composition , grammar , and literature . It covers the writing process ; the development of vocabulary , speaking , listening , and researching skills will also be included .
Course Name : Honors Literature and Composition I Type of Course : Core Course Available to : 9th grade Prerequisites : Language Arts 8 ( 90 %+) OR Advanced Language Arts 8 ( 85 %+)
Description : This is an accelerated college prep class that integrates reading , writing , vocabulary , grammar / usage , speaking , and listening . It includes reading a variety of literary genres : short stories , novels , poetry , drama , and nonfiction with an emphasis on oral and written response to literature . This course is designed to prepare students for Advanced Placement English / Language Arts courses . Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course .
Course Name : Honors STEAM Literature and Composition I Type of Course : Core Course
Available to : STEAM 9th grade Prerequisites : Language Arts 8 ( 90 %+) OR Advanced Language Arts 8 ( 85 %+)
Description : This is an accelerated college prep class that integrates reading , writing , vocabulary , grammar / usage , speaking , and listening with topics from Science , Technology , Engineering , Fine Arts , and Mathematics . It includes reading a variety of literary genres : short stories , novels , poetry , drama , and nonfiction with an emphasis on oral and written response to literature as well as STEAM-based projects . This course is designed to prepare students for Advanced Placement English / Language Arts courses . Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course .
