ADVANCED PLACEMENT( AP) AND AP CAPSTONE INFORMATION

In high school, " AP " stands for Advanced Placement which is an international program through College Board that offers college-level courses and exams. These courses cover the same material as introductory-level college courses and are designed to prepare students for college-level work.
Scores earned from taking AP exams are used to determine if a student can earn college credit based on how " qualified " a student has showcased their knowledge of the content of the course!
What is an AP exam?
An AP exam is different than a typical class final exam since AP exams are only taken in May.
Most AP exams have two different sections students will complete: Multiple-choice questions( MCQs) Free-response questions( FRQs) Some courses will also include a Digital Portfolio that is graded along with the AP exam. All AP scores are given on a 1-5 scale, with a 3 or higher being considered " passing ". 5- Considered extremely well qualified and is equivalent to an A + or A in a college course 4- Considered very well qualified and is equivalent to an A-, B +, or B in a college course 3- Considered qualified and is equivalent to a B-, C +, or C in a college course
What AP scores do colleges / universities accept?
The college credit a student can receive based on their AP exam score can vary upon the college / university. Some colleges / universities do not award any college credit for certain AP exams, and some accept award credit based on the score you earn. For example, Kennesaw State University offers one college credit for English if a student earns a 3 on the AP English Literature and Composition exam, but offers TWO college credits for English if a student earns a 5 for the same exam!

Have you heard about the AP Capstone program?
This is a two-year program from the College Board that develops a student’ s skills in research, analysis, writing, collaboration, and presentation. It consists of two courses, AP Seminar and AP Research, which emphasize critical thinking and evidence-based arguments rather than subjectspecific content. Students who complete the program can earn the AP Capstone Diploma or Certificate, both of which are highly valued by colleges worldwide.
