I had a superb experience reading with my young scholar, Rania. She grasped my different style of teaching very quickly, reading with expression and understanding our goal. I learned that with this opportunity, teaching her to read, I had to try my best to make her love reading.

My reading partner is Lily. Over the past few terms I have watched her blossom into the beautiful reader she is now. When she first started off she was very shy and quiet but as the terms flew by I was overjoyed with her improved pronunciation and projection. I also enjoyed being taken back down memory lane with all the books that she brings every Tuesday.

I had to read and help my reading partner with Afrikaans this year. When we started reading she didn’ t understand what she was saying. After a year together she can translate any of the sentences and can tell me what the majority of the words mean. Ashleigh Mingo 7C
When I first started reading partners it was very scary at first and I was very shy. My reading partner read Afrikaans books with me, at first I did not understand what I was reading. Later on in the year I could pronounce any word in Afrikaans. I finish most books in less than a minute.

At the beginning of the term I went to reading partners, my partner’ s name is Imaan. I was a bit scared at first but after a while she helped me and I really got to know her and she helped me improve a lot. I would like to say thank you for helping me. Hanim Jackson 3A
My reading partner is fun and she helps me when I need help. We have lots of fun talking about stuff and she is the best reading partner I could have at my school.

When I first went to reading partners I was a little bit shy, my reading partner was Misbah. She is very kind, when I first read to her I was very nervous but now I know her well and enjoy reading.

Chatroom

The Grade 3 and 4 Chatroom girls have had a terrific time with volunteers from St. John’ s Church, playing games during break and learning new insights about God. The Grade 5, 6 and 7 Chatroom girls have spent time considering the reasons why WGJS enjoys charity. It is because we love mercy, we want to act justly and we want to walk humbly with God. Next year we hope to see this impacting more on our community.
