Soccer World Cup
The Sports Pillar, in keeping with one of the major themes of 2018
– The World – held a World Cup Opening Ceremony in June 2018.
A random selection from the World Cup Draw ensured that every
class represented a country at the opening ceremony. Plans for the
ceremony forged ahead, with our girls preparing songs and dances,
making banners and flags and gaining much insight into the country
they had been given.
On the day of the ceremony, the entire school was lit up with bright
colours, music in abundance and a general feeling of excitement
as hundreds of outstandingly dressed people, staff included,
participated in the ceremony. The Sports Pillar opened the ceremony
with a fantastic rendition of the World Cup 2018 song, “Colours” and
we were fortunate to have a representative from Russia to cut the
ribbon and officially declare the World Cup open. Da!
It was wonderful to see the amount that each class learnt about their
particular country but it was even more amazing to witness how
each class shared what they had learnt with the rest of the school.
What a fun way to learn!!
