Empowering Our Community ’ s Future
The Nicholas County Community Foundation is a small but mighty organization serving the needs of our county and surrounding areas . Our mission statement is to connect charitable giving with a permanent source of funds to ease local needs while enriching the community for today and tomorrow .
Established in 2007 as a hospital foundation , which was cityowned at the time , this foundation quickly grew to a higher purpose . By 2009 , this organization became a full-fledged community foundation . We now hold 50 funds , established by various charitable donors , to give through forever funds to provide their legacies . Throughout our time as a community foundation , we have provided support through grants and scholarships of over $ 1.8 million since 2009 . As the NCCF developed , we forged many partnerships and collaborations to offer to those who need assistance the most .
One of our most cherished partnerships is shared with the City of Summersville . The NCCF has made great strides in supporting our community through this relationship . We helped bridge the gap to save our local hospital before conversion to a WVU Medicine facility . We have provided support for food banks , emergency services , local resource centers , education and schools , the arts , children ’ s sports and activities , job training for individuals with disabilities , town beautification projects , support of rehabilitation programs ,
elderly programs and much more . The City of Summersville City Council grant is one that the NCCF relies on annually to support our operations .
Collaborative efforts , such as those of the NCCF and the City of Summersville , have and will continue to bring positive changes to our community . Mayor Robert Shafer has focused on providing support and growth to our community . Utilizing the support offered by the NCCF is one way he has affected these changes .
Another special partnership is one that we have built with our investment bank , Truist . Over the years , we have been blessed to have this strong and dependable partner managing and investing our forever funds .
Our volunteer Board of Directors is future and growthfocused , providing flexibility and visionary ideas to forge our way into the future with transparency as our guide . We are excited about the steps ahead . The future of this community is full of opportunity , and we are elated to play a part in its growth .
