CRW Embraces Opportunity to Modernize Terminal for Future Growth
The Central West Virginia Regional Airport Authority recently discussed a forthcoming pause to the Federal Aviation Administration ’ s ( FAA ) Environmental Impact Statement ( EIS ) for West Virginia International Yeager Airport ’ s ( CRW ) proposed Airfield , Safety and Terminal Improvement Project . The project included a runway shift and extension of CRW ’ s 5 / 23 runway to 7,000 feet . The FAA is the lead federal agency with jurisdiction over the EIS process and has the authority to issue the pause .
Specifically , the airfield portion of the EIS will be paused to allow additional planning to be conducted .
While the additional airfield planning progresses , CRW , in consultation with FAA and its congressional representatives , will shift its focus to the airport ’ s most immediate priority — namely , the modernization of the 77-year-old terminal building . CRW will move forward to compete for terminal grant funding through the FAA ’ s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law-Airport Terminal Program ( BIL-ATP ). The BIL-ATP program allocated $ 5 billion —$ 1 billion annually from 2022 to 2026 — to provide competitive grants for airport terminal development projects that address the aging infrastructure of the nation ’ s airports .
“ West Virginia International Yeager Airport ’ s priority is to compete for once-in-a-lifetime terminal funding made available thanks to the FAA ’ s BIL-ATP for the modernization and renovation of our terminal building ,” states Airport Director and CEO Dominique Ranieri . “ A pause in the EIS process allows us to continue planning work regarding the airfield and to pursue the available terminal funding . Working with the FAA on the EIS over the past year and a half , we have confirmed what we already know : that CRW is the current and will be the future of commercial aviation activity in West Virginia and that our airfield is safe .”

Hundreds of attendees from federal agencies and private businesses are expected to attend the Third Annual Tech Yeah Conference on June 19-20 in Morgantown .
Hosted by West Virginia-based Trilogy Innovations , Inc ., which was named by Inc . Magazine as the fastest-growing company in West Virginia and listed in the Inc . 5000 for the past two consecutive years , the event is held to address leading topics in technology and emphasize the importance of cooperation and collaboration within West Virginia ’ s technology sector . Topics of discussion this year will include artificial intelligence ( AI ) as it relates to government and digital transformation and cybersecurity , specifically the challenges and difficulties facing government agencies today .
With just under 300 attendees at the inaugural event in 2022 , the conference grew to 500 registered attendees last year .
“ Important technology topics will be the center of discussion at Tech Yeah , such as artificial intelligence , cybersecurity and where those two roads intersect ,” says Trilogy President and CEO Brandon Downey . “ We have had huge crowds at the first two conferences because of the topics we address , but also because the conference offers opportunities to talk about partnerships . That has been at the core of the technology industry ’ s growth in West Virginia for more than three decades .”
Trilogy Vice President and COO Randy Cottle , who co-founded the company with Downey , says Tech Yeah has a two-fold benefit for attendees .
“ Tech Yeah is really a dual-purpose event ,” Cottle says .
