THE SAÔNE RIVERBANKS
The Saône river is the cradle of the city of Lyon and its municipalities. First settled around the Fourvière Hill, in the neighborhood of
Vaise and on the Island Barbe, the city has progressively extended over the Saône riverbanks to benefit greatly from the opportunities
afforded by the river (watering place, fishing, transport waterway, etc.) The Saône riverbanks line the river on the left along the
Presqu’Île peninsula and on the right adjacent to the historical old city of Vieux Lyon. The Saône riverbanks were developed at 9
different locations. Each development has its own identity. From the city to the countryside, from medieval architecture to industrial
and ecological patrimony, the Saône riverbanks offer today numerous activities for sports, culture or hobbies:
Long walks along the river
Bike rides on the quais
Picnics in nature
Cultural outings observing artwork along the quais
