have momentum , and considering the other projects happening in South Clarksville , he feels optimistic .
Clarksville Town Manager Kevin Baity said that outside of the conference center , he envisions in the next four to six years the potential of three hotels being opened or under construction in that time .
Another potential project that ’ s currently being worked on to determine its feasibility is the construction of an Amtrak station within this South Clarksville area .
Baity has experience working with railroad travel , specifically sitting on the Illinois Rail Commission , and helped to construct an Amtrak station in Centralia , Illinois for the one of the state ’ s three rail lines .
With Amtrak , he said that a coalition group is working on the corridor from Louisville to Indianapolis by meeting regularly and putting together a recommendation in their study to what stops would be on that route .
“ There ’ s a lot of behind the scenes work that has to be taken into consideration and looked at before Amtrak will commit to ... creating that corridor ,” he said .
Baity said the group has already begun conversations as well with Amtrak as to the availability of track space and working with communities that might be located at these stops .
