ANDREW In South Clarksville HARP , many projects have and are currently being developed to reshape and reimagine the area for those who live and work there .
This includes the proposed Southern Indiana Conference Center , to be located west of the South Clarksville Marathon Development .
SoIN Tourism Executive Director Jim Epperson said that years of work have been put in to the development of this , despite an interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic , to figure out whether a conference center ought to be built , what it should look like and where it should be .
Ultimately , SoIN Tourism decided to select this parcel in South Clarksville . Epperson said the work that needs accomplished right now is in the hands of the Town of Clarksville in order to do some site work to prepare it , including moving streets and utilities .
Epperson said that the consultant they hired to help them with the project is currently on standby , and that SoIN Tourism and the town will split the consulting fees .
“ That ’ s kind of the next phase of work that we will be involved in is working with the consultant ,” he said .
He said the consultant will help guide the town to issue a request for proposal for developers to apply to build the building , and then evaluate those proposals . They will also help construct the legal structure of the ownership of the building .
He said that there are companies that do specialize in operating conference or convention centers . Or , it could be the hotel that sits adjacent to the center that may run it as well .
Epperson predicts that “ heavy work ” would begin with the consultant in 2027 , with construction starting in 2029 or 2030 .
“ I think that ’ s pessimistically realistic , because I just know all the things that you go wrong ,” Epperson said . Overall , Epperson said the project does
