From his understanding , he said they are following the same schedule and process for the segment between Indianapolis and Chicago .
Baity said the main issue with Amtrack is potential ridership numbers , and the time frame between destination points .
“ It ’ s got to be competitive with somebody who would normally drive the route , because obviously there used to be train service between Louisville and here ,” he said .
Baity said the old schedule was a 12 to 13-hour trip since there was a three and half or four hour layover in Indianapolis , which he said “ kills ” the destination .
Baity said Midwestern train routes usually get some kind of state subsidy money while coastal routes can sustain themselves on ridership fees .
“ They ’ ll have to look at if there ’ s any subsidies available to help support those such that they can keep the ticket prices down where they ’ re competitive ,” he said .
After a handful of months of construction , the final layer of asphalt will be put onto Riverside Drive along with other landscaping touches soon , Baity said , ending the improvement project there .
He said the plan is to have that road fully functional for Thunder Over Louisville in April .
