WELCOME GUIDE 2015 Things to do before you come to Keele We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to Keele in just a few weeks’ time. In preparation for your arrival, there are a number of things that you need to do to be well prepared to commence your studies and life here at Keele. We will be keeping in touch with you by email, post and through social networks so keep checking your Keele inbox and checking in online to see what is happening, as we count the days down until you arrive. Apply for a Keele Mentor. This scheme is open to all new undergraduate and postgraduate students. The online induction contains all sorts of useful information and, if you are staying in Halls, you will need to successfully complete this before you are issued with your room key. At the end of the induction you will find your Accommodation Boarding Pass – print this off so you can hand it in when you collect your keys. You should complete your online Induction by Friday 18 September. Check out your Halls Facebook Groups and join. By doing this you will be able to start to make contact with others that you will be living with, or nearby. Follow www.keele.ac.uk/rs/hallslife/ facebookgroups to find the Facebook page applicable to your allocated Hall. 16 Sort out Insurance A basic level of contents insurance cover by Endsleigh Insurance is provided for all student bedrooms on campus and is included as part of your accommodation fees. You can find details of the policy on the accommodation webpages in our A-Z section. Do check whether the cover offered is adequate for your needs. There is the option to extend your cover to include more expensive items (like laptops) and bicycles at www.endsleigh.co.uk. If you are not living in Halls then you should arrange appropriate insurance, just in case something does go wrong. Open a Bank Account We recommend you consider opening a bank account before you arrive at Keele, so that your student loan can be paid to you as soon as possible. You may wish to consider a student bank account which can have features that will make it attractive to you as a student. See ASK’s guidance on opening a bank account keelesu.com/advice/finance Modern Language Electives – Confirm your language level (UG) If you have chosen a modern language elective, a ‘Language Level Confirmation’ form will be sent to your new Keele email address. Please complete and return by email to ensure enrolment on the correct language level. It is important that you send this information back to us ASAP.
