Hello
Just a quick update on Jess who came to us in November 2023 . You know her background but that is not the dog we know . She was obviously very stressed at first but she is now happy , contented and very sweet . Enjoying her walks ( and food !!). She has gained a little weight and muscle , along with hair on her tummy and nose .
We left her alone for 30 minutes for the first time today and she was fine ( no cage after the first day she came to us ). We now only have one problem - she still cannot interact with other dogs . Not sure if she does not know how to play or really wants to fight . It is better than it was but still a long way to go .
We are so very grateful you let us have her . Keep up the good work .
Best wishes to everyone Sandra , Doug and Jess
Dear Sir or Madam ,
We have rehomed two dogs from you . Prince , came to us in 2009 and passed away in 2021 . It took me such a long time to come to terms with his loss , but eventually I realised I couldn ’ t live without a dog in my life ( let ’ s face it , who could !!!) and we met Teddy in 2022 .
He was very nervous at first and I don ’ t think he had ever been inside a house as he was terrified of the stairs and wouldn ’ t go up . I slept downstairs with him for the first couple of days . He also wouldn ’ t let you touch anywhere near his rear end ( his fur was very matted ) and if you even slightly moved your feet near him , he would jump and run away .
Unfortunately , it was necessary for him to have several vet visits at first for one reason or another , and he was very snappy . There would be no warning , like a growl , just straight in with the bite , if he was even approached .
We have had a lot of help from Behaviour Referrals in Chester , and lots of “ socialisation ” vet appointments . Where he just snaffles treats strewn on the floor whilst the vet and I just chat . He has progressed so well that the vet is able to stroke him and even sit on the floor with him and he sits beside her and allows her to cuddle him ! He recently had to see a different vet because he injured one of his claws on a back foot . He did need to be held , but she was able to examine him and all did was a little grumble !!!
Just recently we took him on holiday to the north of Scotland and even went on a ferry to Orkney . He took everything in his stride and even allowed lots of people to stroke and cuddle him . He even came with us into a few restaurants for us to have a meal .
We also take him for regular fun swims at Jump In dog hydrotherapy pool near Tarporley in Chester . He absolutely loves it and gets on very well with the assistant .
I can ’ t tell you how very proud we are of him , and love him so much !
Thank you all so much for all you do for these fantastic dogs !!! Julie
