Ages 6-8 • Members create story boards , develop characters , themes , and plots that are then brought to the screen through still motion photography .
Ages 9-13 • LEGO Robotics is a targeted robotics engineering lab designed for first time participants , no experience necessary . Youth will participate in one-off coding exercises to complete team based challenges , improve critical thinking skills / creativity , spark an interest in STEM , and promote discussion about career paths in robotics and related subjects . Lego based designs bring a level of comfort for beginners .
Ages 6-9 • NASA ’ s BEST activities expose members to the engineering design process ( W 4:30pm – 5:30pm ). The guides accommodate two grade groups ( K-2 & 3-5 ), and all follow the same set of activities . The engineering design process is a series of steps that engineers use to solve problems . The emphasis is on students ’ understanding that engineers must “ imagine and plan ” before they begin to build and experiment .
Ages 9-13 • The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science , designed to demystify “ code ,” to show that anybody can learn the basics , and to broaden participation in the field of computer science .
Ages 9-17 • 3D printing is a strong draw to encourage students to develop their science , technology , engineering and math skills — right alongside communication , collaboration and problem solving . Programs that allow students to develop , design and produce solutions give them experience with the activities that will serve them well in college and career . Students learn 2D and 3D computer aided software and applications through project based learning .
Students explore past expeditions in underwater exploration that have led to many discoveries about our ecosystem . Students then connect information about research and discovery and relate to creating their own ROV to explore their local watershed .
Youth Defenders Protect Your Privacy ! Cyber Patriot increases awareness about cyber security . Members learn how to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access and how to secure various operating systems from malicious threats .
