THEN : Magic Kingdom , 1971-1994
NOW : Disneyland , as Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes Tokyo Disneyland , as Beaver Brothers Explorer Canoes Shanghai Disneyland , as Explorer Canoes
Whether you viewed it as a scenic boat ride or a way to get in an upper body workout while on vacation , Davy Crockett ’ s Explorer Canoes was an active experience inside a theme park . The 35-foot-long canoes sailed through the Rivers of America , circumnavigating Tom Sawyer Island , all propelled by the physical efforts of guests onboard . Free from any track , each ride could result in a slightly different route and one-of-akind views of Frontierland and Liberty Square from the water , as well as the chance to view flora and wildlife up close .
While the canoes have been retired at WDW and Disneyland Paris , they still draw crowds at three other parks . The experience at Disneyland is most similar to the one from Magic Kingdom as you paddle past Frontierland and New Orleans Square , and Tokyo Disneyland is close , as it takes guests around Westernland and Critter Country . But in Shanghai Disneyland , you ’ ll find unique views as you paddle around a lagoon and rivers through Treasure Cove and Adventure Isle .
