THEN : Magic Kingdom , 1971-1994 with an all-new story based on Finding Nemo .
NOW : Disneyland , as Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage Disneyland Park Paris , as Les Mystères du Nautilus Tokyo DisneySea , as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
While three variations on this blast from Fantasyland ’ s past exist in parks around the world , each of them is a very different take on the Jules Verne classic from WDW ’ s history . The two that follow along with Captain Nemo ’ s storyline don ’ t even involve actual submarines , and the one that has submarines has another Nemo altogether .
For admirers of the original text , the walkthrough attraction in Disneyland Paris , Les Mystères du Nautilus , is a must-see as it shows off the ballasts compartment , diving chamber , engine room , charts room , main salon , and even Captain Nemo ’ s own chambers . But over in Tokyo DisneySea , you can climb aboard a mini-submarine , which uses a suspension system similar to Peter Pan ’ s Flight , along with special effects , to create the illusion of water to make riders feel like they are diving below the ocean .
Over in Disneyland , Tomorrowland Lagoon is home to Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage , which uses the original submarines from the iconic attraction that Magic Kingdom ’ s was based on ,
The version in Tokyo , pictured above , does not actually submerge guests under water . PHOTO BY DANNY SHUSTER
