STICK- TO-YOUR- RIBS FLAVOR While the CMs are busy making you laugh , you ’ ll be enjoying a wide variety of BBQ-inspired comfort foods . The restaurant is open for breakfast , lunch , and dinner . While a few of the breakfast items are also around at lunch , and a few of lunch items are around at dinner , each menu is fairly distinct . Each has big portions , big flavors , and comforting dishes . You ’ ll find a la carte menu items like omelettes and waffles in the morning , sandwiches and burgers at lunch , and steak or seafood at dinner … but Whispering Canyon is known for the signature skillets .
You can choose from several different all-you-care-to-enjoy skillets at each meal , packed with a selection of meats , vegetables , and sides . When it ’ s time for a second helping , you can request the whole skillet or just select items . We dined at lunch and enjoyed The Carnivore Skillet ( house-made cornbread with honey butter , maple-chipotle barbecued slow-smoked pork ribs , oak-smoked beef brisket , barbecued pulled pork , citrusherb chicken , country potatoes , buttered corn , charred carrots ) and the Plantbased Skillet ( maple-chipotle barbecued jackfruit , spicy " sausage ," mustard-glazed beefless tips , herb-brushed trick ' n chick ' n , roasted potatoes , oven-roasted carrots , sautéed green beans , charred peppers ).
Depending on how many guests are in your dining party and whether everyone orders the same skillet , you may receive one smaller skillet per person or a larger family-style skillet with multiple portions of each item . Don ’ t worry if you get the skillet for one or many ; you can have as much as you like .
The house-made cornbread is a great start to the meal , and the honey butter ( honey drizzled over freshly whipped butter ) really makes it sing . I preferred the brisket and the chicken on this skillet , but each item had a distinct flavor profile and was well cooked . You really can taste the different BBQ profiles and meats , which shows some thought and care in the preparation , not just smothering everything in the same sauce . The vegetables were cooked well and tasted fresh and crispy . Plus , they made the otherwise meat-heavy skillet feel like a balanced meal .
The Plant-based Skillet is a nice addition to the menu , and I continue to applaud Disney for their efforts to increase the variety of plant-based , allergy-friendly , and other accessible items on menus throughout the resort . I preferred the real meat myself , but the " sausage " is a nice facsimile , and the jackfruit is an interesting substitute that takes on the flavors of the barbecue sauce quite well . As an omnivore with no food allergies , the plant-based option is a novelty that I like to try and compare . For me , it represents attention to detail and considerations on the part of Disney ' s culinary team to design menus that can be enjoyed by all . It wasn ' t the highlight of my meal , but for someone with different dietary considerations , I know that these additions make a huge impact in broadening the list of available dining options .
