WA ’ s Semiconductor Industry Celebrates Bill
The Washington Legislature passed a bill in March that is expected to boost the state ’ s semiconductor industry and open the door for more federal funding . The bill extends two tax preferences for semiconductor manufacturing and reinstates six other expired tax preferences .
The tax preferences are “ an important signal that Washington state is invested in helping companies unlock federal CHIPS Act funding ,” Jennifer Baker , president and CEO of the Columbia River Economic Development Council , told GeekWire .
Clean Aviation Company Opens Manufacturing Plant
ZeroAvia opened a new manufacturing plant in Everett in April to manufacture hydrogen-electric engine components for aircraft . Washington state officials attended a ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Propulsion Center of Excellence , which is expected to employ hundreds .
The company hopes to certify an engine for a 20-seat airplane with a 300- mile range , and is developing a 30- to 90-seat plane with a 700-mile range .
Darigold names Allan Huttema as CEO
Darigold in April named interim CEO Allan Huttema its permanent CEO as it expands operations in the Pacific Northwest . He had previously served as a Darigold director for nine years and chairman of the board for three years . Huttema has been a dairy farmer in Idaho for more than 25 years .
“ As a dairy farmer myself , I know how important it is to have successful and vibrant Darigold to serve as the marketing and processing arm of our co-op ,” Huttema said .
Darigold operates 11 processing plants and is building a 12th processing facility in Pasco . The co-op was founded in 1918 and is made up of 300 farmer-owners .
