Training on Application of Participatory Epidemiology to Identify Possible Solution for the Surveillance and Prevention Measure: COVID-19 as a case study

Veterinary Public Health and Food Safety Centre for Asia Pacific (VPHCAP) organized the training workshop with aims to introduce the participatory tools to the participants to use in their area of professions in order to gather crucial information from the community and find feasible

solutions during and after the outbreak of COVID-19. The workshop was held on 24-27 November 2020 at Kantary Hills Hotel and Serviced Apartments, Chiang Mai.

The workshop was supported by USAID. There are 50 participants who from public health and veterinary public health sectors in Thailand.

Objectives of the training:

1. To build participatory epidemiology knowledge to practitioners who work in public health and animal health areas

2. To exchange knowledge and experience in the development of surveillance and prevention systems for emerging diseases such as Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)

3. To create a network of participatory epidemiology practitioners

Nowadays, the situation of the contagious disease outbreaks are more severe and more likely. Those including new and emerging infectious diseases, in particular, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) occurred in Thailand and abroad. It still tends to escalate and spread to many areas around the world which affects public health, including the impacts on society and economy. This problem needs to be solved under support and cooperation from all sectors such as governments, multilateral organizations NGOs and local communities.
