After the winter board meeting, I attended both my school's local Disco Certamen and TJ Certamen. I organized and attended a "board bonding" session that most of the officers attended afterward! I worked with Josh to choose members for the new Spirit and Service Committee, and participated in its first two official calls -- brainstorms for spirit at NJCL this year! I also attended two Membership Committee calls. I reached out for agenda items and formatted the agenda for the spring board meeting. I registered for NJCL, and posted instructions on how to register on the VJCL Instagram. Finally, I worked with Joseph Amsbary (former 1 VP) to compile a list of all events and dates of VJCL, NJCL, and general Latin related things onto a Google Calendar, which is now published on the website.
2019-2020
VJCL President,
Savvy Thompson
Since our last meeting, I have met with my committee twice, once in February and once in March, and as a group we have produced our first report of the year, which I will present at the spring board meeting. I have also worked with Ms. Lewis, Mr. Kim, Ms. Ghosheh, and a number of other fantastic supporters of the VJCL Certamen Project. As a part of that project, I produced a hosting guide for schools interested in hosting a certamen event of their own. With this committee, I created a promotional email and flier, which I sent to 86 sponsors whose schools took the NLE but did not have JCL chapters. I also acquired a proclamation for Virginia Classics Week from Governor Northam and began working on "The Seven Days of Classics," which is the theme for this year's Virginia Classics Week.
2019-2020 VJCL 1st VP,
Jack Purple
Since the winter board meeting, I've been up to many things. I have fulfilled a campaign promise of mine by establishing the Spirit and Service Committee! This included creating an application and reviewing the submissions with Savvy. We have also already held a spirit brainstorming session, with many more to come. I've also graded the February COTM Contest, and organized and run the sock donation drive for the homeless at TJ Certamen. I am currently in the process of organizing the next service drive and also the statewide service drive. I have also begun to plan for spirit castra dates and locations.
2019-2020 VJCL 2nd VP,
Josh Liberman
