Broken Heart Syndrome

The entire college experience will have us going through a rollercoaster of emotions, both good and bad.

We've all heard of a broken heart, fictionally speaking, which usually comes after a bad break-up or a sad movie. Did you know it is a real medical condition?

Broken Heart Syndrome was first discovered 25 years ago by Japanese researchers.

Medically speaking, it causes the left ventricle of the heart to balloon out at the bottom while the neck remains narrow.

What happens to you physically, ranges from chest pains and breathlessness to a heart attack or even death.

So, what triggers such a scary condition? The obvious culprit are sadness and anger, but scientists have now thrown in a twist: being too happy may also lead to this condition.

How to avoid it?
