4.Take the stairs

No matter where or what you are doing, if taking the stairs are a viable and available option, do it! The extra steps and incline that gets your heart pumping is good for it. (Fun fact: taking the stairs down burns more calories.)

5. Do homework standing up

The amount of time that goes into school work has us sitting for hours. Well, no matter what your weight, sitting for a prolonged period of time on a regular basis, shortens your life span. So, try doing your work by standing up once every five minutes.

The proven beneficial effects of chocolate has us doing our happy dance. Eating chocolate reduces inflammation which is good news for our heart. If eaten in moderation, don't be afraid to indulge your craving with a piece or two of your favorite chocolate.

Make time for the most important meal of the day. Doing this can help you maintain a healthy diet and weight which is all good news for your mind and heart. Opt for grain-abundant foods like oatmeal or multigrain toast to give your day an extra healthy kick.

Whether you choose to do this for five minutes a day or just begin to try taking deeper breaths while getting from one place to the next, engaging in deep breathing increases circulation and calms your nerves. Reduced stress and more oxygen help the heart do its job better.

10. Get enough sleep

Getting enough sleep does more than you think. People who get less than six hours a sleep a night on a regular basis, are more likely to develop some sort of heart disease. Lack of sleep leads to body inflammation and over time increases blood pressure. Make getting 7-8 hours a sleep a priority.
