Baltimore ’ s downtown arena , formerly known as Royal Farms Arena , received a new identity as CFG Arena ( named for sponsor CFG Bank , the city ’ s largest bank ) and a fresh $ 200 million makeover backed by Pharrell Williams . The new space opened at the beginning of this year , and it ’ s loaded with sustainabilityfocused features , including locally sourced materials , LED lighting , lowflow / waterless facilities and tons of energy-efficient updates .

VOLLMER CENTER AT CYLBURN ARBORETUM
In Northwest Baltimore City , the Cylburn Arboretum features nearly 300 acres of gardens , including a tree collection , greenhouses and wooded trails . One of its gems : The Vollmer Center , a modern event space built with sustainability in mind , from the design ( clad in natural materials and following the site ’ s grade ) to the functional features ( such as its green roof , composting system , and geothermal heating and cooling system ). It ’ s also simply gorgeous , with a light-filled lobby that overlooks the arboretum ’ s maple trees and huge windows that showcase the landscaped vistas .
