SPOTLIGHT ON CHARM CITY

SPOTLIGHT ON CHARM CITY

This year, Visit Baltimore’ s PR team capitalized on cultural moments and milestones to earn major national media coverage that reinforced Baltimore’ s reputation as a welcoming and culturally significant destination.
A SPORTS WEEKEND WINS OVER MEDIA
An exciting weekend of sports in Charm City, including an Orioles home game, Ravens season kick-off watch party, Maryland Cycling Classic and WNBA match-up, turned into the perfect opportunity to showcase Baltimore’ s sports history and culture to media from both the meetings and leisure space. While the games provided the hook, it was Baltimore’ s vibrancy and unapologetic pride that captured the headlines.
“ Even sports carry Baltimore’ s unmistakable rhythm... Baltimore is not just to be visited. It’ s to be experienced....”
DOUBLING DOWN ON INCLUSIVE TRAVEL
We continued our focus on authentic LGBTQ + storytelling with visits from OUT Magazine and GayCities. The resulting content showcased queer-friendly neighborhoods, artists and businesses. GayCities mused that Baltimore“ deserves a spot on every queer vacationer’ s radar.”
“ If you’ re looking for inspiration, Baltimore offers it generously... this is a city that meets you where you are and invites you to stay.”
TAKING AFRAM’ S 50TH ANNIVERSARY NATIONAL
For AFRAM’ s 50th anniversary, Visit Baltimore hosted a press trip centered on the festival and the city’ s culinary and arts scenes. The trip produced multiple stories in TheGrio and The Source, which called AFRAM a“ living expression of Black culture, creativity and joy.”
A HOMECOMING FOR AMY SHERALD
“ AFRAM introduced me to Baltimore, but the city’ s food, art, neighborhoods and welcoming people are what will bring me back.”
When“ Amy Sherald: American Sublime” made an unexpected move to the Baltimore Museum of Art, we quickly built a PR strategy around the exhibition and Sherald’ s deep ties to the city. Targeted media outreach and hosted media visits helped secure coverage in Essence, Black Enterprise and OUT Magazine, which used the exhibition as an anchor for a larger feature on Baltimore’ s artistic renaissance.
