We’re still evaluating the various ways
to help users manage their data, because
that’s essentially what it is, a personal
assistant that we’re building on top of that.
We’re not here to monetise your data and
sell it to the highest bidder, we’re not inte-
rested in that. What we’re interested in is
to build a personal assistant that will help
you manage your data, because managing
data is hard.
Users want to own the data, they don’t
want to manage the data.
It’s very, very difficult.
VoB: Yeah, we used to say if it’s free, you
are the product.
Tomer: Exactly.
VoB: You are totally saying, we want to
change this.
Tomer: Exactly.
VoB: People don’t really realise that it’s
important to own and control their own
data. But, when they see companies such
as Facebook, they start to think about it
and become more aware.
Then, a project like Pillar arrives. There is
no way to change this, and I think the ada-
ption will be really easy soon, because the
more people I met and discussed it with
think that digital identity is a part of you,
and until now, very few people were con-
cerned about it. Yet, I can easily beat you
on the web. It’s easy to steal a picture and
create a fake account, and be „Tomer”.
Why? Because, we don’t have control of
our own data.
So, until we’re not concerned by, we say in
French „le brouteur”, people who create
fake accounts and identities to take your
money, then we won’t care about it.
I create an account, it’s very easy, and log
in with someone else’s identity, and that’s
it.
I think this is a current issue that our
society needs to manage, because often,
people are not really well informed, and
you know this from the chinese blog in-
dustry.
Also, as they’re not well informed, they
are very trusting. We now discover that we
have the possibility with Pillar, for exam-
ple, to be in the centre.
This change radically transforms the
universe.
It’s like a big bomb, and when the big bang
occurs, everything is possible.
We can really rebuild something more
trustable, which respects individuality,
and it’s really a notion.
I’m an idealist, utopist, like many French
people: Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité...
You told me, in everything you do, there is
a part of France.
It’s funny, and really a gift when you say
it, because I think all philosophers have to
think, and create a new ecosystem, a new
system, a new political system.
An ecosystem in which every person has
an equal part. For me, it’s totally different,
this notion that each person has the same
importance regardless of his/her diploma
and your job.
