it signals recognition of the unique needs and opportunities in teacher preparation contexts. This gateway promises to transform how we prepare tomorrow ' s teachers for increasingly interconnected classrooms.
Here is what drives this article: teachers tend to teach the same way they learned. Theoretical knowledge about international collaboration cannot replace experiential learning. When student teachers actively participate in eTwinning projects, they internalize collaborative pedagogies that shape their future practice. This realization motivated my integration of eTwinning into Initial Teacher Education( ITE) at Universitat Rovira i Virgili( URV) when I joined the faculty at the end of January.
Who can join eTwinning ITE and how? Only universities involved in ITE can participate. As a teacher educator, you can participate only if your university has been incorporated into the platform. This requirement ensures all participants share common goals focused on preparing future teachers. The incorporation process serves as quality assurance, maintaining the platform ' s educational integrity and focus. The path to the incorporation into the platform begins with your National Support Organization( NSO). If your university has not joined yet, like was the case of the URV, you should contact your NSO for guidance through the entire incorporation process. First, secure the institutional commitment, in the case of the URV by working with the Dean of the Faculty of Education, to prepare an official letter confirming our participation
intention. This formal commitment represents more than just a bureaucratic need, as it ensures sustainable support for this international initiative.
Following approval, the NSO provides specific instructions for joining the European School Education Platform( ESEP). These instructions differ from standard registration, so follow them carefully, as if you skip any of the steps, your account may not be recognized as“ Teacher Educator”, limiting your access to ITE-specific features. The technical steps may seem complex initially, but NSO support makes the process achievable even for the least techy educators.
Teacher Educators receive special privileges that go beyond standard eTwinning users. They can access exclusive ITE groups that provide invaluable spaces for finding collaborative partners across Europe:
They are also invited to attend and actively participate in specialised webinars that explore a wide range of teacher education topics, from effective assessment strategies and inclusive classroom practices to the management of multilingual collaboration in diverse learning environments. These sessions not only deepen their understanding but also provide practical tools they can implement
