Daniela Bunea is a teacher of English as a foreign language at Colegiul Național Gheorghe Lazăr in Sibiu, Romania. She has been an eTwinning ambassador since 2010 and a Scientix ambassador since 2018. She is a National Geographic Certified Educator, a Diffit Certified Educator and an Open Educational Resources creator. She moderates 2 eTwinning Groups( the“ Health and Wellbeing in Education” Featured Group and the Visibility Group), she is a member of the Editorial Board of the European Toolkit for Schools, a member of the Europeana Network Association Education Community Steering Group and the chief editor of this newsletter.

Why and How to Use eTwinning in Initial Teacher Education by Edward A. Lockhart Domeño

Introduction eTwinning has connected over 1.2 million teachers across 44 countries, which has involved around 12 million learners, according to eTwinning Central Support Services( personal communication, June 11, 2025), which represents a very important pedagogical revolution in Europe. Since 2005, the platform has facilitated collaborative learning experiences that develop essential competences for modern educators and their students. In a comprehensive impact study, the European Commission( 2013) found that eTwinning significantly improves pedagogy, teacher professional development, and pupil learning. Beyond simple networking, eTwinning develops digital competence, intercultural awareness, and collaborative skills that modern educators desperately need to help their future learners.
eTwinning ' s evolution in teacher education began with Teacher Training Institutes( TTI) in 2012, transforming into eTwinning ITE in 2019( Tosi & Baptista, 2023). The very same eTwinning platform now serves teacher educators and student teachers through projects, groups, and specialized training. The transformation represents more than a name change, as
