Each participant carefully read choice scenarios and shared pertinent, pedagogically sound reflections in the form of comments of at least 60 words. These comments acknowledged the original authors’ ideas and highlighted how the scenarios could inspire new teaching approaches.
Entries were judged on their creativity, insight, and engagement. The quality of the contributions exceeded expectations: teachers demonstrated not only a thoughtful understanding of how to integrate Europeana into their practice but also a genuine commitment to bridging formal and non-formal education while nurturing wellbeing in schools. Many entries offered original perspectives— from emotional literacy and intercultural understanding to media literacy and active citizenship— proving that digital cultural heritage can spark meaningful connections across subjects and age groups.
In this project, 9th-grade students explored the causes and effects of climate change using images from Europeana, then worked collaboratively to develop ideas for apps that help the planet while supporting our wellbeing.
Alongside designing posters and logos, students engaged in critical thinking, teamwork, and creative digital production— strengthening their skills and sense of active citizenship in the process.
Arina’ s winning comment celebrated the scenario’ s inclusive approach, crosscurricular design, and its powerful impact on students’ motivation and awareness— and she reminded us all of the ripple effect thoughtful teaching can have.
The winner, Arina Ormenișan, teacher of English as a Foreign Language in a Romanian secondary school, impressed the group with her insightful comment on Laurentina Soares’ Climate Change and Wellbeing learning scenario.
As the competition showed, there is so much we can achieve together when we exchange ideas, share good practice, and explore Europeana’ s treasures in the context of health and wellbeing!
