Outdoor Learning, European Collaboration: An eTwinning Experience by Tatiana Silveșan
The eTwinning platform is a virtual space for European collaboration, where teachers can create partnerships, exchange ideas, and carry out joint activities across borders. Information and communication technologies are naturally integrated into the educational process, offering students the chance to interact with peers across Europe and use their language skills in real and relevant contexts. We all aim to build a more creative and innovative learning environment that provides children with quality education, relevant to today’ s society. In this endeavour, eTwinning projects are a valuable support for teachers, helping expand educational horizons and develop an intercultural worldview. They offer a wide range of digital tools that can be easily integrated into everyday activities, stimulating student motivation and engagement.
In today’ s competence-based and meaningful learning system, international school partnerships open rich opportunities for innovation and collaboration. eTwinning projects offer the perfect setting for teachers and students to work together across borders,
promoting learning in authentic, engaging, and multicultural contexts.
One such project,“ Outdoor Autumn Activities,” ran from October to December 2024 and brought together 26 teachers from 9 European countries: Greece, Poland, Italy, Romania, Turkey, Croatia, Lithuania, Portugal, Ukraine, and Ireland.
The project targeted pupils aged 5 to 9 and aimed to explore the autumn season through scientific, artistic, and cultural lenses. The learning process was designed to be playful, exploratory, inclusive, and collaborative, allowing children to interact with nature while building essential skills through interdisciplinary tasks. As a partner, I involved five preparatory class pupils from the Centre for Inclusive Education in Beclean, Romania. The activities were carefully adapted to their age and developmental level, ensuring active participation, inclusion, and personal growth. The students enthusiastically took part in every task, engaging in learning experiences that nurtured their creativity, curiosity, communication, and self-confidence.
The project’ s main objectives were:
• observing and understanding natural autumn-related phenomena;
• encouraging cooperation through indoor and outdoor group tasks;
• integrating scientific, artistic, and linguistic content in enjoyable tasks;
• promoting creative expression through poetry, storytelling, and drawing;
• involving parents in workshops and autumn-themed events;
• practising foreign language skills in
