Young Activists Take Action Empowered by eTwinning by Aliona Meriacre
This is a story of student engagement, advocacy, and lasting impact through the W. O. M. E. N. project.
The eTwinning project W. O. M. E. N. – We Open Minds Empowering Now [ W. O. M. E. N.] brought together students and teachers from Moldova, France, Italy, Portugal, and Turkey in a powerful, collaborative journey to explore women’ s rights, gender equality, and active citizenship. Rooted in the belief that empowered youth can drive change, the project gave students a platform to raise their voices, take initiative, and become active participants in shaping a more just, equitable and inclusive society.

These were more than just graphic designs, they were personal reflections shaped by critical discussions on gender stereotypes, social justice, and equality, calling for action to secure equal rights, empowerment, and opportunities for all women and girls, and to build a future where no one is excluded or left behind. To broaden the outreach, they partnered with the school’ s Student Senate, which supported the distribution of materials across school platforms and social media channels. It was one of the first signs that this project had grown beyond the classroom, encouraging the wider community to take part and reflect.
Honouring women who made a difference Moving beyond abstract ideas, the students carried out research on influential women from Moldova and designed creative posters telling their stories. Each team focused on a different domain: science, culture, education, politics, activism, and highlighted both the
