The Magic of Mathematics through eTwinning Projects by Adriana Mariș

As a Mathematics teacher and passionate eTwinner, I constantly seek new ways to spark curiosity in my students and encourage collaboration with their European peers. This year, I had the opportunity to participate in two exciting eTwinning projects, one with each of my 5th grade classes, both designed to show students that Mathematics is not just a subject in school, it is a key part of our everyday lives.
“ The Magic of Geomath” – Exploring Geometry in motion Implemented with class 5A, The Magic of Geomath invited students to explore the wonders of Mathematics and Geometry through the concept of movement. Project link
Our aim was to engage students in handson, meaningful activities that demonstrated the real-world applications of geometric concepts. Together with international partners from Turkey, Croatia, Greece, and Romania, a total of 12 teachers and 60 students collaborated to bring mathematical ideas to life— literally. From designing dynamic geometric shapes to experimenting with 3D printing, students embarked on a journey of innovation and discovery.
We emphasized student-centred learning by designing activities that reflected the learners ' interests and preferences. Through a combination of research, group work, and creative expression, students developed critical 21st-century skills: creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication. Digital tools such as Canva, Padlet AI Image Generator, Bitmoji, and Animaker were integrated to enhance engagement and digital literacy.
The project also promoted English communication skills through Zoom meetings, where students confidently exchanged ideas and shared their work. We celebrated Safer Internet Day with activities that promoted digital citizenship, while interactive games like GooseChase helped make abstract math concepts tangible. Students created holograms, worked on 3D models, and participated in collaborative voting and feedback activities, especially during the logo and poster design phases. The project concluded with a virtual exhibition showcasing the students ' work, reflecting their progress and enthusiasm throughout this international learning adventure.
