Competence-Based Education Through eTwinning by Agnes Ildico Costea

Anna Rita Recchia has been a primary school teacher since 1983. Since 2005, she has been a member of the eTwinning community, through which she has developed numerous European cooperation projects, many of which have received the National and European Quality Label and, in some cases, have merged into Comenius partnerships. She has been an eTwinning Ambassador since 2010 and has conducted intensive training and mentoring activities for teachers, promoting European project planning and educational innovation. Her main areas of interest include digital teaching, coding, educational robotics, and school internationalization. Since 2022, she has been part of the Italian Erasmus + Ambassador network, coordinated by the Erasmus + National Agency INDIRE, continuing to support schools and teachers through training, mentoring, and disseminating the opportunities offered by European programs.

The eTwinning platform provides teachers with opportunities to connect, learn together, and experience a sense of community belonging. We do not need people who merely possess knowledge; we need people who can create and produce, feel, empathize, think critically, and reflect. Self-directed learning entails identifying learning needs, setting goals, selecting strategies and resources, and evaluating outcomes, thereby fostering autonomy and responsibility.
Françoise Altamura has been a French conversation teacher since 1996 in Rome. She has always tried to get her students to participate in activities in which they could practise French in an authentic way. Also, she started with eTwinning projects and video conferences in 2007. In 2010, her project " BLA... BLA... BLA...", was awarded and became an eTwinning kit. In 2013, she launched the idea of creating the Italian eTwinning page on Wikipedia. Since 2009 she has been an eTwinning ambassador for her region Latium.
Etymologically, " competence " derives from the French word * compétence * and carries multiple meanings: proficiency, ability, mastery, training, seriousness, merit, diligence, the exercise of duties, and the capacity to make decisions, as well as a body of theoretical and practical knowledge. This analysis reveals that the notion of competence is not an isolated construct but encompasses diverse meanings that transcend the realm of cognitive acquisitions, extending to the
