Visibility of eTwinning Projects Group July 2026 Newsletter eTwinners on the Journey Towards the Sustainable Digital World

In this paper the project founders of the eTwinning project „ Green Digital Citizen – Today, Tomorrow, Always“ Iva Naranđa and Bilge Varel describe the main projects ideas, activities and conclusions. The project was carried out during the school year 2025 / 2026 and lasted 10 months, from September to June. Throughout the project successfully collaborated 18 teachers from 14 schools from 8 countries( Croatia, Türkiye, Greece, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, and Spain). The majority of the teachers come from eTwinning Schools.
The project intention was to create the opportunity for students by enabling learning for environmental sustainability, as crucial for the present and the future. The project follows The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals( SDGs), especially goal Quality Education( SDG 4) as a key to achieve all SDGs. In line with The European sustainability competence framework( GreenComp), this project recognizes the need to improve and develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to live, work and act in a sustainable manner, especially in a digital world. Students were encouraged in becoming systemic and critical thinkers
who care about our planet’ s present and its future, shifting away from unsustainable practices and becoming responsible digital citizens. By working on this project participants developed digital competences, foreign language skills( English), teamwork and collaboration skills in the international setting. Creativity and imagination guided students in creating their final work, an imagined future world in which digital technology is in complete harmony with nature.
Without the intention to describe in detail all the steps in the implementation of the project, in this article emphasis is placed on the points that the project founders consider the most interesting.
Aims The aims of the project were to introduce students with the SDGs, to understand the concept of sustainability, to develop the GreenComp competences( especially competence 3.1 Futures literacy from the area Envisioning sustainable futures, and competencies 4.2 Collective action and 4.3 Individual initiative from the area 4 Acting for sustainability), to increase the awareness of connection between nature conservation and using the Information and Communication Technologies by making aware of the relationship between sustainability and technology, to develop the Digital Competence Framework for Citizens( DigComp) competences, to develop digital competence and collaboration skills through the use of digital tools, to understand the importance of the safe and ethical use of AI tools, to
