ScoopStainable – Youth Journalism for a Sustainable Future by Alina Ramona Vlad protecting local ecosystems, and foster a global civic spirit, providing young people with the tools needed to raise their voices for the planet.
Students at‘’ Alexandru Ioan Cuza’’ National College have proudly taken part in the eTwinning project‘’ ScoopStainable’’, inspired by the UN’ s designation of 2026 as the International year of volunteers for sustainable development. Our project has successfully transformed the traditional classroom at Alexandru Ioan Cuza National College into a dynamic, cross-border eco-newsroom. Moving beyond the role of ordinary tourists, students stepped into the shoes of investigative field journalists and active change-makers to champion the cause of global ecotourism and environmental protection. Throughout this collaborative journey, these young reporters partnered with peers from across Europe to manage a " European cross-border newsroom," culminating in their final synthesis magazine, " Farewell Scoop ". Their diverse itinerary blended digital literacy and climate activism; they tackled virtual escape rooms using binary and Morse code during CodeWeek, explored sustainable travel habits through Team challenges, promoted media literacy with the Scoopstainable Top 10 Words glossary, celebrated linguistic diversity on the European Day of Languages, and fostered cultural inclusion by exchanging traditional Romanian Christmas cards. International collaboration in action Collaboration was at the heart of the Scoopstainable project, unfolding on multiple levels and across borders. Students worked together in international, themed newsrooms, joining forces with partners from other countries and topic areas to build genuine cross-team collaboration. Peer-to-peer learning flourished through challenges, debates, and discussions, while articles, podcasts, and videos were shaped as shared creations, refined through continuous feedback, reflection, and co-editing. This spirit of teamwork extended beyond the newsroom into a rich calendar of joint activities: students tackled Code Week cryptography challenges alongside international partners, explored cultural exchange tasks on Padlet and other interactive platforms, and engaged in Safer Internet Day discussions on the responsible use of AI.
