Hop on Our Hometown Tour: Building Friendships Across Europe by Tina Parać wanted my pupils to see that English is much more than a school subject. It is a way to connect with people, share ideas, and discover the world beyond the classroom.
With this vision in mind, my colleague, Senay Sağlık from Turkey, and I created the eTwinning project Hop on Our Hometown Tour! We wanted our pupils to realise that every hometown has its own unique story worth telling. At the same time, we wanted them to experience English as a living language – one they could use naturally to introduce themselves, talk about their communities, and learn from children in other countries.
For me, eTwinning has always been much more than an educational platform. It is a bridge that brings people together, opens doors to new cultures and gives children the confidence to communicate with others beyond their own classroom. Through every activity, video call and shared project, I watched my pupils become more confident, more curious, and more willing to use English for a real purpose.
This was an international eTwinning project bringing together 12 teachers and more than 162 primary school pupils from Croatia, Turkey, Portugal, Spain, Poland, Romania, Greece, and France to learn, create and grow together.

The greatest reward was seeing how friendships grow across borders. Children who had never met before were laughing together, exchanging ideas and learning from one another. Those heart-warming moments reminded me why I became a teacher in the first place – to inspire young people, help them believe in themselves and show them that learning a language can open the door to a much bigger world.
