Danielle Suh
51ST VSGA JUNIOR GIRLS’
CHAMPIONSHIP
Winner: Danielle Suh (65-67—132, won
with par on second playoff hole)
Runner-up: Victoria Tip-Aucha
(66-66—132)
The story: For Danielle Suh and Victoria
Tip-Aucha, it was a fitting end
to junior golf. Two longtime friends
who were heading in different directions
converged one more time, on two
playoff holes at Old Trail Golf Club
in Crozet. After matching pars on the
first playoff hole, Tip-Aucha’s second
shot on No. 18 (the second playoff hole)
went astray, opening the door for Suh to
claim her first VSGA championship. She
tapped in for par to claim her title. Next,
she’ll head to High Point University to
play college golf. Tip-Aucha, a two-time
Junior Girls’ champion, will move on to
Penn State.
“It feels really great,” said Suh, who
lives in Herndon. “I’m really excited I
won this tournament. It will give me a
lot of confidence going into the college
season. She’s a great player, so this is a
great win.”
68TH VSGA JUNIOR STROKE
PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Winner: Kelly Chinn (65-64-65—194)
Runner-up: Chase Nevins
(65-65-69—199)
The story: A household name due to
his exploits on the national stage, Great
Falls’ Kelly Chinn added a big-time
VSGA title to his burgeoning resume.
Chinn—who last year won the AJGA
Rolex Tournament of Champions and
Danielle Suh, headed to High Point University,
made par on the second playoff hole to clinch
her first VSGA title at the 51st VSGA Junior
Girls' Championship.
advanced to the semifinals of the U.S.
Junior Amateur—annihilated the previous
Junior Stroke Play scoring record
by eight strokes to win the championship
going away. Sure, James River is a par-70
layout, but the closest anyone had ever
come to breaking 200 in this event was
when two-time VSGA Amateur champion
Jake Mondy shot 202 in 2010.
Chinn’s ability to avoid costly mistakes
served him well at James River. He made
just two bogeys and took advantage of a
key mistake from the runner-up Nevins
to pull away in the final round. Chinn and
