YOUR MILITARY EDUCATION BENEFITS AT NWTC!
How do I get started with my military education benefits?
If you aren’t sure which benefits you are eligible for, contact your County Veterans
Service Office (CVSO). The contact for your CVSO can be found at http://wicvso.
org/locate-your-cvso/. You may also call the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) at
1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551) to ask for guidance.
If you are the service member or veteran applying for Chapters 30, 33, or
1606 for the first time:
1. Go to www.vets.gov to fill out VA Form 22-1990
2. After the VA processes your 22-1990, they will mail you a
Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
3. Bring your COE to the School Certifying Official (SCO)
4. Sign a Student Veteran Agreement form
If you are the dependent applying for Chapters 33 or 35 for the first time:
1. Go to www.vets.gov to fill out:
a. VA Form 22-5490 (for Chapter 35)
b. VA Form 22-1990e (for Chapter 33 TOE)
2. After the VA processes your VA Form 22-5490 or 22-1990e, they will mail
you a Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
3. Bring your COE to the School Certifying Official (SCO)
4. Sign a Student Veteran Agreement form
If you are applying for WI GI Bill for the first time:
1. Fill out and submit a WDVA form 2029 to the School Certifying Official
(SCO) **This form must be submitted to the School Certifying Official (SCO)
by the 14th day of the Official Start Date of the semester. **
a. If you are the dependent (spouse or child) of an eligible veteran, you
will need to attach a copy of your Birth Certificate or Marriage License.
b. If you are the stepchild of an eligible veteran, you will need to attach
a copy of your Birth Certificate and Marriage License that shows the
eligible veteran has married a biological parent of the student.
2. Fill out and submit a WDVA form 2030 and DD214 to the state (the address
is on the form)
a. If you are the dependent of an eligible veteran, you will need to
attach the veteran’s Federal VA Service-Connected Disability (SCD)
Rating Notification Letter.
b. Include WDVA form 1805 if you do not have a WI address listed on
your DD214 as your home of record. You will need to include proof
of residency. Please carefully read the instructions that are attached
to all of the forms.
