LAGO DI GARDA SPONDA VERONESE
GARDA LAKE VERONESE SIDE
Lake Garda is the most precious jewel of the Veronese territory
and one of the most picturesque lakes of Italy, framed by green
hills and mountains, surrounded by the perfumes and colours of
its beaches.
The most visited towns on the lake are: Peschiera del Garda,
renowned for its beach and its system of fortifications; Lazise, with
its historical city centre and its medieval architecture; Bardolino,
with the romanesque Church of San Severo, the hermitage of
San Giorgio, the elegant villas and the many pubs for a lively night
life; and Garda, dominated by the hill called “la Rocca” and the
beautiful Punta San Vigilio. After Punta San Vigilio the landscape
becomes narrower, surrounded on the east by the impressive
Monte Baldo and on the west by the striking Prealps of the
province of Brescia.
The quiet town of Torri del Benaco is renowned for the Scaligeri
castle and its splendid lemon orchard, the ancient Captain’s
Palace, for the Berengario Tower and the small Church of
Santissima Trinità.
In Brenzone sul Garda athletes and sport lovers can practise
different sport activities like sailing and windsurfing and enjoy a
unique vacation.
Malcesine must be mentioned as well, a picturesque medieval
village, located at the foot of the Monte Baldo, characterized
by a luxurious Mediterranean vegetation and renowned for
its wonderful Scaligeri Castle. Thanks to the constantly windy
climate, it hosts important national and international regattas.
From the city centre, a cable way allows tourists to reach Tratto
Spino (1.752 m), where the landscape is characterized by woods
and offers a striking panoramic view of the lake.
Along the coast and in the hinterland, you feel transported to an
enchanted place, among renowned tourist sites, ancient villages,
inlets and small harbours, great villas and excellent flavours.
Lake Garda is tourist destination which cannot be missed out and
it represents a meeting point for people who love tourism, sports
and social events. It has been a source of inspiration for famous
travellers since ancient times, as it is testified by the famous
sojourns of Goethe, Byron, Foscolo and Carducci.
Along the Veronese side of Lake Garda the landscape is
characterized by vineyards and olive groves. The sweet and
temperate climate favours the growth of cypresses, palms and
oleanders which spread their intense perfume over the whole
territory. This area is also characterized by splendid lemon
orchards with lemon and citrus trees. The climate is similar to the
Mediterranean one and contributes to render this area a feather
in the cap for Italian tourism. In 2017 Lake Garda celebrated more
than 13 million visitors, over the period from January to September.
