Stratton Summit Challenge
Join us on August 10 as the SMST2 team hosts the 3rd annual Stratton Summit Challenge ! This fun race follows the work road from the base of the gondola to the top of Stratton Mountain , 1,750 vertical feet . You can race your heart out against the best in the world OR take your time – everyone is welcome . On top you will get spectacular views and a ride back down on the gondola . There is a kids race that goes about 1 / 3 of the way up and finishes at mid-mountain . You can sign up virtually this year and tackle the 1,750 vertical feet ( 2,249 meters ) somewhere else in the world ! Virtual participants who tag us in a video on race day will receive an autographed Jessie Diggins photo card in the mail .
This event showcases the SMST2 team – our professional cross country ski team that lives and trains in the Stratton area . This team includes athletes who have earned medals at World Junior Championships , U23 World Championships , World Championships , and the Olympics . Olympic Gold , Silver , and Bronze medalist Jessie Diggins will be there . All proceeds from the race go to the SMST2 team to help them with their travel expenses throughout the season .
If you are staying for the Q & A , bring food or grab some lunch at one of the awesome resort restaurants ! If you can not make the event and would like to contribute , please consider making a tax deductible donation at gosms . org . The schedule is as follows : 9:20am - Kids Race ( from Base to Mid-Mountain ); 9:40am - Open Race ( from Base to Top ); 10am - Gondola opens , spectators are welcome to ride up for free ! You ’ ll want to be on the first chair to see the action ; and 11am to 12pm- Athlete meet and greet , autographs , posters , prizes , raffle awards , Q & A .

Franklin County Field Days
This family-fun community tradition will celebrate its 48th season from August 1 through August 4 with midway rides , live music , motorsports , livestock events , a petting zoo , Big Bee Transforming Robot Car , Al the Ventriloquist , train rides , poker tournaments , 4-H exhibits , demonstrations , and favorite fair food .
Daily highlights include : Demolition Derby and Minivan Mash-Up ( August 1 at 7pm ); Oxen Pulling ( August 2 at 9:30am ) and Truck Pulls ( August 2 at 6pm );
Draft Horse Show ( August 3 at 9:30am ), Open Dairy Show ( August 3 at 10am ), Gymkhana ( August 3 at 4pm ), and Tractor Pulls ( August 3 at 6pm ); Draft Horse Pulls ( August 4 at 9:30am ), Green Mountain Wrestling ( August 4 at 1pm ), and Pedal Pulls ( August 4 at 1pm ).
Music acts are Bad Horsey , The Old Man Garage Band , Aaron and Alaria , Friction , Missisquoi River Band , Neon Spoon , Chris & Erica , and Darcy Cahill and Band .
Pay-one-price admission is $ 20 and includes unlimited midway rides , live entertainment , track events , exhibits , and parking . Fair hours are 10am to 10pm on August 1 , 8am to 11pm on August 2 and August 3 , and 8am to 7pm on August 4 . The midway opens daily at 12pm . Castleton Hosts Colonial Day House Tour
Step back in time as hostesses in Colonial attire greet guests in homes along Castleton ’ s historic Main Street during the 84th Annual Colonial Day House Tour on August 17 . The Castleton Woman ’ s Club sponsors this annual event featuring over a dozen sites throughout the village including outstanding period homes , public buildings , and historic sites . The Federated Church on Main Street , described as builder Thomas Royal Dake ’ s architectural masterpiece , is a popular stop on the tour . The pulpit , with its intricate moldings and panels , is one of the most extraordinary in the state . There will be a quilt display at the
Church as well .

At the Higley House , home of the Castleton Historical Society , visitors can tour the exhibits , antique tools , carriage collection , and period fashion display of 19th century clothing and accessories . On display will be the famous Blue Cat Quilt depicting historic landmarks in town and highlights from the book The Blue Cat of Castleton . The Colonial Day House Tour will be held rain or shine on August 17 from 10am to 3pm . Tour tickets $ 20 ($ 18 seniors ) can be purchased on Colonial Day at ticket booths on Main Street .
