Mask-making at BMAC
Are you a mouse or an elephant ? A fox or a bear ? The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center ( BMAC ) invites you to explore your inner animal in a mask-making workshop with Vermont sculptor Art Costa on August 10 from 2pm to 4pm .
Inspired by many of the artworks currently on view at the museum , Costa and Kate Milliken , BMAC ’ s manager of education programs , will provide instruction and supplies , as participants create animal masks from cardboard and other recycled materials . The workshop is suitable for all ages and takes place at 28 Vernon St . in Brattleboro , VT , the office building next door to BMAC . Admission is $ 45 . BMAC members receive a $ 10 discount . All materials are included . Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult . Space is limited , so advance registration is required . During the workshop , Costa will provide a variety of different mask templates , and participants will use recycled boxboard — light cardboard from cereal boxes or pasta boxes — to assemble a mask of their choice , which they can embellish with paint , tissue paper , and other recycled materials . Costa and Milliken will share printed mask templates for participants to take home for future use .
Mah Jonng Tournament to Benefit MCL
Register now to play in the 3rd Annual Maj Jonng tournament to benefit the Manchester Community Library ( MCL )! Open to Mah Jonng players of all skill levels , the tournament will be held at the library ( 138 Cemetery Ave . in Manchester , VT ) on August 14 . Starting at 8:45 am , the tournament kicks off with a complimentary breakfast courtesy of The Works Bakery Cafe and coffee or tea . Registration and instructions start at 9am and play begins from 10am to 12:30pm .
Bring your own lunch and dessert will be provided compliments of Willoughby ’ s Depot Eatery . Prize and award presentations begin at 1pm . Great prizes and raffles will be awarded including dinner at Reluctant Panther , gift certificates to Manchester Designer Outlets , La Peche Lingerie , Coco Goose , Mountain Goat , Northshire Bookstore , Thai Basil , Spring & Harbor , gifts from Eileen Fisher , Tumi , and many more !
