Victoria Miller , Ph . D ., Associate Professor of Marketing , received the 2022-2023 Claire Moore Award in honor of her teaching , support for students , and community service engagement .
Meagan Nyland , Senior Lecturer in English and Director of Experiential Learning , was featured in VoyageBaltimore discussing the Stevenson Summer Writers ’ Workshop .
Dr . Frank Stearns , Ph . D ., Assistant Professor of Biology , received a grant from the Washington Biologists ’ Field Club to study whether chemicals secreted by insects serve as a deterrent to predators .
Gary Stewart , Head Men ’ s Basketball Coach , was selected to participate in the prestigious NCAA Basketball Coaches Academy . Alongside 45 coaches from all three NCAA Divisions — and both men ’ s and women ’ s basketball — he learned new strategies and insights for effective coaching , with a special focus on developing successful student-athletes .
Laura Thomason , Faculty Director of International and Off-Campus Study , and her teammate Carl Holtman of Burlington VTest won the “ Case Study Conundrum ” competition at the National Association for Foreign Student Affairs ( NAFSA ) Region VI / VIII conference held in Pittsburgh in November 2022 .
Amy Tucker , Lecturer and Coordinator , Foundational Math , was selected as a Project ACCCESS Fellow of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges ( AMATYC ). She will receive resources and support to help her research and support her role as Coordinator of Foundational Mathematics .
Elena Volkova , Professor of Art , participated in Let the Right One In , a group exhibition featuring painting , sculpture , and photography at Critical Path Method gallery in Baltimore .
Ben Wilson , Ph . D ., Associate Professor of Mathematics , gave a colloquium on computational linguistics at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Hampden-Sydney College .

Congratulations to Andre Williams on his appointment to Vice President of Student Affairs . Williams has more than 25 years of higher education experience . He previously served as formerly Stevenson ’ s Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Residence Life and Housing . Born and raised in Baltimore , Williams earned his Bachelor ’ s in Criminal Justice at Coppin State University and his Master ’ s in Human Resources Development at McDaniel College . He has been an active member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity for 32 years , and has volunteered with multiple community youth organizations , including Top Teens of America-Baltimore Chapter , the Boys and Girls Club of West Hills , and Loch Raven Football League .
