Expro has successfully completed the plug and abandonment ( P & A ) of Ireland ’ s first indigenous gas wells . Expro provided the delivery of integrated subsea and well test services over an eightmonth period to intervene , plug and abandon subsea wells from a mobile offshore drilling unit located in the Celtic Sea .
Expro completes a subsea decommissioning
The subsea intervention scope utilised Expro ’ s 7 3 / 8 ” ELSA ( Expro landing string assemblies ) system , supported by a complete backup system and direct hydraulic topside and subsea controls package . The system includes a range of new and advanced design elements and functionality across its 7-3 / 8 ” valve range , incorporating high-debris tolerant ball mechanism and hydraulic latch mechanism , as well as supplying dual seal protection for safe and environmentally secure operations .”
Penspen supports Next Gen engineers
Penspen is demonstrating its continuing commitment to the United Arab Emirates with a tailored scheme to develop the next generation of engineers . Its Emirati Graduate Programme is designed for graduates in the UAE and is delivered in partnership with Khalifa University , with the aim to help future engineers develop the technical competency and real-world experience required to succeed in their fields . Since launching in 2020 , 30 people have successfully completed the Emirati Graduate Programme , with more than 20 securing full-time positions with a major NOC and other locally based energy sector companies , and one employed as a graduate engineer in the Penspen Engineering team in Abu Dhabi .
Unconventional solution to valve operation

The rotation of the Valve Automizer bracket is transmitted to the handle of the valve to open and close the valve using the buttons on the main unit or by remote control . Special technology ensures the product is compact , lightweight , and quiet , while still being suitable to a variety of valves ranging from 10A to 200A , delivering appropriate torque-diverse conditions . Hence , it can be used in different industrial settings , including factories , ships , power plants , and building constructions . The fact that this product addresses sustainability , human safety , and digitalisation in addition to automation distinguishes it in the market . Retrofit automation is made possible without interrupting the flow of fluids inside the pipe and by utilising the machinery already in place . For safety , a remote control alternative in emergencies avoids operating in danger zones . The device collects various data for technical research and contributes to digitalisation .
