Droning the Valley

For our beacon we recorded the school campus. We showed the elementary, the intermediate, the jr high, the highschool, the administrative building, and the athletic fields. We had to deal with weather while trying to get all of these buildings. It was mostly sunny during these couple weeks but we did deal with a little rain. Baron was a great pilot with the drone. He got the hang of it quickly and smoothly got all of the film. I helped to get the equipment together and help watch the drone and check off the buildings we had done. We learned many things while videoing. Watch the warnings on the screen and be cautious of them. Don’t fly to far from where you are just to be cautious of running out of distance and losing connection. The landing of the drone was a lot easier than we thought it would be. We always had perfect take offs. Our next project will revolve around the drone so this was a great practice for us and it benefitted the school. We flew from the administrative building to the highschool which was really our first distance test. It did fine but towards the front of the highschool it got a little bit laggy. That was the farthest that we flew from us other than that it did fine. The administrative building had trees covering up the front of it, but we were able to get vertical enough to get the building. The fine arts was a little more difficult to video due to the power lines out front, but we worked around it and eventually got it done. This project turned out well and we learned how to use the drone with no problem.
